An Easter Meditation

The Great Exchange

Don Hoisager

Opening Thought

Today, we celebrate more than a historical event; we celebrate a living reality. The world has a way of wearing us down. The constant noise, the weight of our struggles, and the friction of daily life can make us feel as though we’ve lost our way. We often try to push through on our own strength, only to find the tank is empty.

The Scriptures

"But they who wait (my edit - or "hope in") the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and grow be faint." — Isaiah 40:31
"For I am convinced (or "sure") that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers ("rulers"), neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord." — Romans 8:38-39

The Reflection

In the original language of the Bible, the word "renew" actually means to "exchange." Easter is the day of the Great Exchange. On the cross, Jesus took our brokenness and our exhaustion; in the Resurrection, He offers us His victory.

To be "convinced" means we no longer have to wonder if we are enough or if we will make it. We are convinced not by our own willpower, but by the fact of the empty tomb. If death could not separate Christ from life, then nothing in our "present or future" can separate us from His strength. We don't have to find the way back on our own; we simply lean into the One who has already conquered the way for us.

A Moment of Rest

(Take a moment to breathe deeply. As you exhale, imagine letting go of a specific weight you’ve been carrying. As you inhale, imagine receiving the "living hope" of the Resurrection.)

The Declaration of Hope - in your quiet time here repeat out loud

Because He is risen, our past is forgiven.

Because He is risen, our present is held in His hands.

Because He is risen, our future is secure.

Our strength is not our own; it is the power of the empty tomb living within us.

Closing Prayer

Lord, thank You that we don't have to rely on a strength that runs dry. Today, we exchange our fatigue for Your fire and our confusion for Your conviction. Thank You for the victory that is already ours. May we walk into this week not just hoping, but convinced of Your love.
